Activities implemented in 2008

1) Energy Efficiency and Renewables Festival at School on 22th of April 2008

In cooperation with Eco-schools and Technical Museum of Slovenia and with support of some Slovenian RES energy experts who gave interesting presentations, Slovenian E-Forum implemented Energy Efficiency and Renewables Festival at the Bistra castle on the Earth’s day on 22th of April 2008. Pupils were familiarized with hydro wheel, hybrid and electric cars, bio-fuels, energy efficient construction and with passive houses. Their teachers participated in a wokshop on climate change and energy efficiency at schools.

2) Summer School of Sustainable Energy: Every Single House – Solar House

15 students coming from different faculties attended summer course from 12th to 18th July 2008 aiming at closer understanding of various aspects of energy efficiency and renewables – especially energy coming from the sun - in buildings. Two ambassadors visited the summer course namely British ambassador Mr. Timm Simmons and American ambassador Mr. Yusif Ghafari. Students constructed the solar collector and drew a feasibility study on solar heating of outdoor pool at the countryside family-run tourist farm. Representatives of Electricity distributing company from Ljubljana (Elektro-Ljubljana), and Trimo Company presented their products. One small scale and one bigger hydro power plant were visited too.

3) Cooperation at the European Solar days and at the Annual EU PV Platform conference Both events took place on 6th and16th of May 2008 respectively. At the Energy fair in Celje city (75 km northeast of Ljubljana) pupils coming from Celje high school conducted together with representatives of Slovenian E-forum a demonstration of PV system. The same demonstration was conducted in Ljubljana 10 days earlier during the Annual Conference on EU PV Platform.

4) “It is sunshine and we lower the CO2”

From September till December 2008 20 raising awareness events were conducted in various cities across Slovenia. In the morning a lecture was given on sustainable energy practices and calculating the carbon footprint was introduced. In the afternoon a small scale PV system was set up. In the evening lectures on RES and energy efficiency practices were given by energy experts.

5) Student’s arena

Slovenian E-forum participated at the biggest student’s event by presenting small scale PV power plant together with the explanation by our PV expert.

6) Project events at various elementary and high schools

In 2008 many project events dealing with sustainable energy were conducted at various elementary and high schools as well.

7) International Conference “The Future of the GHG Emission Trading in the EU

By close cooperation with the Republic of Slovenia National Council and Focus NGO the international conference on the EU emissions trading scheme was organized.

8) Expert meetings

Various expert meetings were organized by the Slovenian E-forum in 2008 on energy efficiency and renewables.

1) IUSES project – still ongoing

Intelligent Use of Energy at Schools: calls for proposals for the competition

2) Zero CO2 Agents on a Public Mission Summer camp for solar energy, solar events at schools organized by pupils themselves.

3) Expert meetings on sustainable energy practices within Trust project aiming at raising the awareness of different actors in RES and RUE topics

4) Workshop on job opportunities in sustainable energy sector for unemployed persons aiming at improving job opportunities in RES and RUE sector
